I've completed the block-out stage for the Forest Car Showcase! This step helps me establish the basic layout and composition before diving into details. With the general shapes and flow in place, I can now focus on building out the environment and refining the car model.

Here's a glimpse of the block-out:

I used the car for scale for now. I think I will animate it driving by.

On to the next stage! 🚀

To kickstart the Forest Car Showcase Project, I focused on gathering detailed reference images to inspire and guide my modeling, texturing, and rendering process. Using PureRef, I created an organized reference board, categorized as follows:

  • 🌳 Forest Roads Without Cars: Capturing untouched nature for realistic environments.
  • 🚗 Forest Roads With Cars: Observing how vehicles interact with the environment—studying shadows, reflections, and scale.
  • 📷 Aerial Views of Forest Roads: Understanding broader landscapes and compositions from above.
  • ❄️ Different Settings: Mountain roads, snowy fields, lakesides, and other diverse scenes for inspiration.
  • 🍄 Forest Floors: Details found on the ground—mushrooms, moss, leaves, creeks, and other natural elements.
  • ☀️ Forest Lighting: Exploring various lighting scenarios such as dark scenes, light scenes, sunbeams, northern lights, winter atmospheres, and more.

These references will help me visualize the forest environment and identify the best settings for my car renders. This process also gives me a clear direction for the next stages: modeling the car and creating the environment.

Here’s a snapshot of my reference board:

The Forest Car Showcase is a creative project focused on designing and rendering a detailed car model within a natural, forested environment. The purpose of this project is to combine high-quality automotive design with realistic nature scenes, allowing me to enhance my skills in modeling, texturing, rendering, and environmental design.

Through this showcase, I aim to:

  • Create a realistic car model with intricate details.
  • Develop a lush, immersive forest environment using tools like Geo-Scatter and Botaniq.
  • Capture cinematic renders that highlight both the car and its surroundings.
  • Experiment with various lighting setups and atmospheric effects to convey different moods and styles.
  • Share progress along the way, documenting the journey from rough concepts to polished renders.

Ultimately, the Forest Car Showcase will serve as both a learning experience and a visually impressive portfolio piece.

I haven't drawn in like forever. I started taking a course from SketchMonkey and implemented some tips he gave. The thicker lines in the bottom. Also I took his advice to get the proportions better than I usually did.

Drawing in my ages old sketchbook. Drawn with a ballpen.
